Why Async?
- Fostering deep work, focus and flow
- Synchronous time is expensive. Save time.
- Async documentation lives on and saves lots of time and foster transparency and cross-collaboration, meetings don’t.
- Fosters Deep thinking and helps people mull things over
- Get work done without blockers at your own time, order and pace. And be happier.
When to do Async

Amazing for async = Transmitting information

🎯 Default to async first, then sync if needed as this also fosters deeper thinking

Examples
- Walkthroughs, documentation, explanations.
- Information sharing (like Research summary)
- Feedback review cycles (small feedback required; updates after big feedback was already given)
- Simple questions and answers
When to do Sync
Things that are potentially better to do live (synchronously) = Transforming information (mental tennis of ideas is required between each other)
- Hard conversations, delivering constructive feedback or other emotional content.
- Workshops and brainstorming
- Design review that involve live discussion, maybe even changes and complex brainstorming (with async prep)
- Very complex subject matter or when ideas are diverging and require decision (Still good to have some parts pre-recorded for context beforehand)
- Complex discussions that require too many decisions to be made.
- To create a social experience
- Eg. the meeting fosters a better social bond between colleagues or sense of belonging, etc.
